TAQO is a gritty, versatile artist from Columbia, South Carolina, blending raw storytelling with trap and rap influences.
TAQO - Bio
TAQO is a compelling voice emerging from the heart of Columbia, South Carolina, where he grew up navigating the rough terrain of North Main’s Ashley Apartments and other Section 8 housing communities. Raised amidst a backdrop of drug-infested neighborhoods, violence, and systemic poverty, TAQO's early life experiences not only shaped his worldview but also became the fuel for his dynamic, gritty, and unapologetically raw musical style.
From a young age, TAQO found himself drawn to music as a means of escape and expression. The harsh realities of his environment served as an unending source of inspiration, propelling him to channel his emotions into beats and lyrics that reflect both his struggles and his aspirations. His music is a testament to survival, resilience, and the desire to rise above circumstances. Every verse is a chapter of his life, and every beat is a pulse of the streets he calls home.
Though his foundation is deeply rooted in trap and rap, TAQO is a versatile artist who doesn’t limit himself to a single genre. His sound, a blend of hard-hitting beats and melodic flows, is influenced by some of the most notable names in the industry, including Jay-Z, Future, Tupac, Project Pat, K Camp, and Jeezy. Yet, despite these influences, TAQO’s music carries a distinct signature — one that is entirely his own. He doesn’t write his lyrics down; instead, he lets the vibe dictate the direction, creating a spontaneous, authentic sound that captures the raw emotion of the moment.
For the past decade, TAQO has been meticulously refining his craft. His music journey began in middle school when he discovered that music could be more than just a hobby — it could be a powerful form of therapy and a platform to tell his story. It became a way to cope with the chaos around him, a way to make sense of the struggles, and a way to dream beyond the confines of his neighborhood. Music is more than a passion; it’s a lifeline.
In May 2023, TAQO released the impactful single "Feel Like Pac," a visceral track that pays homage to one of his biggest influences, Tupac Shakur. The song not only reflects the spirit of the late rapper but also serves as a bold declaration of TAQO’s own story — a narrative of survival, ambition, and unrelenting grit. The single is available on all major streaming platforms and has become a cornerstone in his growing discography, drawing attention for its raw lyricism and compelling storytelling.
While TAQO continues to work independently, his ultimate goal extends beyond just making music. He is determined to build a legacy, not just for himself but for other aspiring artists and producers who come from similar backgrounds. His vision includes creating a platform to sign and develop talent, offering them the support and guidance he didn’t always have. In his words, "I want to give others the chance to be heard, the way I had to fight to be heard."
In 2025, TAQO achieved a significant milestone by winning the Konnected Tour Contest out of North Carolina. This victory not only boosted his confidence but also led to a prominent feature in Konnected Magazine and a subsequent tour, both of which have helped solidify his reputation as a promising new voice in the trap and rap scene. It was a pivotal moment, underscoring his relentless work ethic and undeniable talent.
Beyond his musical prowess, TAQO is a self-sufficient artist who not only writes and performs his own songs but also records and mixes his tracks independently. His creative process is a seamless flow, a stream of consciousness that allows him to capture the essence of each beat without overthinking. This organic approach to music production gives his sound an edge. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s unapologetically him.
For fans of Future, Bossman Dlow, and Bankroll Fresh, TAQO offers a familiar yet refreshingly distinct sound. His music evokes the same intensity and authenticity, resonating with listeners who appreciate stories of struggle, hustle, and triumph. Whether he’s rapping about the streets, personal losses, or dreams of success, TAQO’s music is a powerful reminder that greatness can emerge from the unlikeliest of places.
